Esperance Bound
With delays in delivery and teething problems having taken it’s toll on his chances of being an outright contender for the 2008/09 Super Sedan Summer series title, current WA Super Sedan champion Rob Bawdon is hoping that the gremlins have got up and left as he prepares the A-Z Panel & Paint Reliance Petroleum WA1 Rocket chassis for the upcoming double header weekend of racing in Esperance on Dec 5th and at his home track in Kalgoorlie on Dec 6th.
Having turned a huge number of laps over his racing career at both the tracks, Rob is hoping that local experience will help guide him and the Outback Express team to their first feature win of the season. The new car has been great in the handling dept but has been suffering some minor engine problems with the freshened Speedtorque Chev engine that have affected the teams performance to date.
We thought we had fixed the problem at Collie, however Robbie turned some laps at Kalgoorlie last week to confirm that the problem was gone but it reappeared in a slightly different format so it was back to the drawing board this week said Corey.
We have changed the entire fuel system now including the pump and the car appears stable in the workshop but we will try and do some laps before Esperance just to make sure.
The double header weekend and the travel involved will mean that preservation will be the key to a good performance and the team will look to finish well with a straight car on Friday and then head home to get the car ready to rumble on Robs home track on Saturday night.
With a lot of Robs supporter base located in Kalgoorlie Rob will be out to stamp his authority on this round in an effort to get the upper hand for when the boys come a knockin for the Goldrush Hammerdown in March.
With that said you can bet current series leader Gary Higgs in the ex Lucas Roberts Rocket and son Dustin in Robs Rocket Chassis from last season will certainly be out to rain on the parade. Add the debut of the Rick Mussara Rocket Chassis Monaro and the field will be awash with Rocket race cars all lookin for the win. Tough place to be but the Outback Express will be looking to be at the pointy end come feature race time.
